Teacher Education Programs


Teacher Certification 

You may obtain an Application for a Nova Scotia Teacher's Certificate by requesting the application package be mailed to you, or by visiting our office in person.

The documents you are required to submit include:

  • a completed Application Form, including character references;
  • proof of age;
  • official transcripts of all completed and in-progress post-secondary undergraduate and graduate studies (in sealed envelope); and
  • a Statement of Professional Standing from the province/state/country where you completed your basic pre-service professional teacher education.
  • a money order for the required amount, please refer to menu item "Fees"
  • All of these documents must be submitted in one package.

Section 28 of the Education Act prohibits school boards from engaging as a teacher a person who does not hold a valid Nova Scotia Teacher’s Certificate.
If you wish to transfer your teacher certification from another province, you must complete the following:
  1. Download the applicable Certification Application Package from the Applications and Forms section of this website
  2. Arrange for an official copy of each of your university transcripts to be forwarded to you in a sealed envelope (include with your application)
  3. Arrange for the original province or state of certification to forward to you in a sealed envelope a Statement of Professional Standing (include with your application). Statements from the British Columbia College of Teachers must be sent directly to the Office of the Registrar - Teacher Certification.
  4. Ensure that the Office of the Registrar - Teacher Certification is provided with proof of your birth date (include with your application).
